Legacy Homes
Legacy Homes
Legacy Homes is a statewide effort to address the long-term housing needs of persons with intellectual/developmental disabilities. We understand that many individuals live in the family home with their parents. To that extent, we are committed in assisting families in 1) creating a plan to preserve the individuals home, 2) find and secure permanent housing, and 3) preservation and long-term management of housing. Our goal is to offer individuals and their families a viable way for someone to continue living in the family home beyond the lifetimes of their parents-if that is their preference. Legacy Homes is a program under the Lanterman Housing Alliance (LHA) which is a consortium of nonprofit housing organizations throughout California (www.lantermanhousingalliance.org)

Why do I need this?
Why do I need this?
Housing is the most expensive thing that your adult child will have to pay for so planning for this now is critical.
A person with a disability receiving SSI would have to pay 117% of their monthly income to rent an efficiency unit and 138% of their monthly income for a one-bedroom unit.
The best thing you can do for your adult child is develop a housing plan as it is a key component to a safe, secure quality of life for him/her. Having control of where you live means you won't have to move because someone else wants you to, or a landlord gives notice.
